The hidden gem in the hear of the Latin Quarter
There is one thing I love about France and especially Paris. That along with all the majestic churches and palaces, you always find a nice café to sit down and relax. And my favorite is definitely Odette. We have discovered it with my husband on a gloomy day and it happened to warm us up both in our stomach and spirit.

The Latin Quarter on the opposite side of river Seine from Cathedral Notre Dame is no short of cozy cafés and restaurants. It got its name from the Latin speaking students from the nearby Sorbonne university. However, these days, it is mostly filled with tourists coming to visit the church know from Victor Hugo’s acclaimed novel. And in the center of that all, often overlooked, you find the historical fairytale building of Odette.

Le fabuleux destin de Frédéric Berthy
Even the history of Odette is like taken straight out of a poetic French movie. It is a story of Mr. Frédéric Berthy. Mr. Frédéric, a former Microsoft programmer tired of boring corporate life, decided to fulfill his childhood dream and opened a pastry shop in Paris. He named it after his beloved grandma – Odette.

But to really succeed in a tough pastry business in Paris, you need to offer more than yet another store with macrons. So Mr. Frédéric did found a cute 17th-century heptagon-shaped building in the heart of the Latin Quarter. And instead of macrons or tarts, he pulled out an old family receipt for Choux à la Crème, delicious light puff pastry often foolishly ignored by other pattiseries.

The choux of every flavor and religion
Still, leaving without the tasting choux would be a big mistake. They come in nine regular flavors. You can find them with chocolate, coffee, praline, caramel, berries, pistachio, green tea, lemon, and vanilla. However, throughout the year, you can bump into special seasonal flavors as for example “Champagne”. Be prepared to pay 1.90 €, 10.90€ for a box of 6. Of course, they have bigger boxes as well.
Odette opened in 2013 and since then, it has won the hearts of both the locals and tourists. Recently, it even turned into a franchise, having already opened branches in Saudi Arabia and Katar. But still, it managed to keep the same feeling of love and enthusiasm that Mr. Frédéric breath into in at the beginning.
